Snapchat has been releasing a slew of features for its users. And its latest features include spreading awareness around COVID-19 and urging users to practice social distancing. These include two new lenses – ‘My social distance’ and a lens that comes with health reminders. The lenses have been designed by Snapchat in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).
As reported by Gadgets 360, the ‘My Social Distance’ lens uses augmented reality to give you an idea about the distance to keep from people around by helping you visualize it. The lens involves a circle on the ground around the person which can be viewed on his/her phone. This would further help you and the people around to prevent getting infected with COVID-19. If you want to curb the spread of virus, you’re supposed to stay in the circle and maintain that distance from other people.
If you’re in a safe distance from other people, the color of the circle remains green but if the app gauges that you have stepped out of the circle, and have gotten close to the other person, it turns red. There’s another new AR filter on Snapchat that offers health tips in an animated form. So, it includes reminders to users around different hygiene related tips.
Snapchat has also released other features including App Stories, a feature that allows Snapchat users to share and push their Stories created in the Snapchat app to other services. . The plan around the feature was announced by Snapchat a year ago at Partner Summit. Currently, the App Stories feature is available in only four apps including Triller, Squad, Hily, and Octi.
