Redmi’s most affordable series of Android phones just got its new iteration. Succeeding the Redmi 7A, Redmi has announced the launch of the Redmi 8A in India. This is the global debut of the phone as the phone is yet to be announced in China.

The Redmi 8A has a much-larger 6.2-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch at the top. The display is an LCD panel and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 439 processor that was also found on the Redmi 7A. In terms of memory (RAM) and storage, you can get up to 3GB and 32GB respectively.

The phone flaunts an all-new Aura Wavegrip Design that Redmi claims will help give a better grip on the phone and will be available in Ocean Blue, Midnight Black and Sunset Red. It also gets a splash-proof P2i coating. The back of the phone houses a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. The front camera that houses in the waterdrop notch is an 8MP shooter.

The standouT feature of the phone is its hefty 5,000mAh battery that comes with support for 18W charging. It’s important to note that the phone only comes with a 10W charger. But at it’s price, this is definitely forgivable. Also, Redmi has finally given up on the microUSB port for its A series of phones as the 8A comes with a USB Type-C port. Another notable feature is the inclusion of wireless FM radio which means you won’t require to plug in earphones in the 3.5mm jack.

The Redmi 8A is priced at INR 6,499 for the 2GB+32Gb varian and at INR 6,999 for the 3GB+32GB variant. The phone will go on sale from 29th September on Flipkart and Mi Store at 11:59PM.
