Earlier in the year there was news that Xiaomi would announce its flagship smartphone, the Mi 7 at MWC 2108 (Mobile World Congress). However, the company launched the Mi Mix 2S in March, which technically is flagship material.
Fresh news now suggests that the company is going to launch the handset on 31 May, only it won’t be called the Mi 7, but the Mi 8. The reason for that is 2018 marks the company’s 8th anniversary for which the it will be hosting its annual launch event in Shenzhen, China.
The information comes via a leaked screenshot which also confirms that Xiaomi has already sold tickets for the upcoming event. The screenshot also reveals the price range of the tickets which is between CNY 799 (Rs 8,500 approx) and CNY 1,999 (Rs 21,500 approx). While that sounds like a lot, the event is also expected to host close to 5,000 people. This definitely means that the company has a big announcement to make and could have more than one product, possibly the Mi Band 3.
The list of leaks don’t end there. A few days back we saw smartphone box package with the number 8 written on it as well as the front glass panel of what looks like a smartphone with a notch. Both are being speculated are of the upcoming Mi 8.
From what we know, the smartphone could be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM, an under-display fingerprint sensor, and will be the first phone to feature 3D facial sensing.
