Instagram has recently rolled out a good number of new updates, including its ‘restrict’ feature and recently, the ‘like-hiding’ feature. And now, the video-sharing app is bringing two more changes to the platform, with regards to posts and account take-downs.
Instagram announced that soon there will be a new process where the company will disable accounts that have a certain percentage of violating content.
On Thursday, the Facebook-owned company posted a blog in which it mentioned about the upcoming update and stated that it will begin to notify users if their account is in danger of getting scraped. The app has a dedicated notification system to alert the user about the same and they can appeal directly to Instagram through it to look into the content that it has taken down. With the current policy, users have to request using the Help Center which will now be changed.
Today we’re updating our account disable policy and introducing a new notification system for accounts at risk of being disabled. Learn more: https://instagram-press.com/blog/2019/07/18/changes-to-our-account-disable-policy/ …
“To start, appeals will be available for content deleted for violations of our nudity and pornography, bullying and harassment, hate speech, drug sales, and counter-terrorism policies, but we’ll be expanding appeals in the coming months,” the company wrote. Additionally, if the content is removed in error, Instagram will restore the post and wave off the violation from the account’s record.
Instagram is also making sure that the users are held accountable for what they post on the app. Its developed policy will not only remove accounts with a certain percentage of violating content but will also remove them within a window of time.
Meanwhile, people are divided over Instagram’s like-hiding feature which may show up in a bunch of countries soon. With this update, users will not see likes and video views on individual posts. The company announced the move on Wednesday tweeting:
