Warning: this video shows graphic footage of a man getting his fingernails cut after growing them for 66 years.
Shridhar Chillal — from Pune, India — has been growing his fingernails since 1952. But, over six decades later, he’s decided to cut them. Prior to getting his nails cut, 82-year-old Chillal’s fingernails measured a total of 909.6 cm (29 ft 10.1 in) — the world record for the longest ever fingernails on a single hand. The length of his fingernails actually equates to the same length as a London bus.
Per the Guinness World Records, Chillal started growing his nails at age 14 after a teacher told him off for breaking his long nail.
Growing his fingernails to this considerable length means he’s not able to use or “open his hand from a closed position or flex his fingers.”
His fingernails will be permanently displayed at Ripley’s Believe It or Not in Times Square, NYC.
