All The New Phones Nokia Announced At IFA 2019


Nokia took to the stage at IFA 2019 to announce 5 new phones to its portfolio. While two of them are the next iterations in the budget 5 and 6 series, the remaining three are modern takes on classic Nokia phones of the yesteryears: the Nokia 2720 Flip, the‌ Nokia 800 Tough and the Nokia 110.

The feature phones are a product of the realisation that there still exists a market for basic, easy-to-use feature phones. By adding 4G and KaiOS to the mix, these feature phones make for a great choice for the elderly or even as a secondary phone for all.

Nokia 2720 Flip

The Nokia 2720 Flip is a resurrection of the original 2720 and features a clam-shell design. The phone has an external display that shows notifications and a bigger 2.8-inch display on the inside. The phone is powered by KaiOS and support Google Assistant,‌‌ WhatsApp and Facebook. There’s a dedicated emergency button that’ll send messages and call 5 predetermined contacts in case of an untoward accident.

Nokia 2720 Flip

The phone is powered by a‌ Qualcomm 205 SoC and is coupled with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage (expandable up to 32GB). The phone packs a 1,500mAh battery that has a 4G standby time of 14 days.‌ You can also use the phone as a hotspot and share your 4G connection. Additional features include Bluetooth 4.0, a 3.5mm audio jack, a 2MP camera, and a flashlight.‌‌ The phone retails for 89 Euros (~INR 7,030).

Nokia 800 Tough

Reminiscent of the rugged Nokia phones of the last decade, the Nokia 800‌‌‌ Tough marks the entry of Nokia into making actual rugged phones. The 800 Tough has US‌‌‌ Military Standard 810G certification and an IP68 rating.‌ Couple the certifications with the fact that the phone has an anti-slip coating, and this is the phone to get if you’re looking for a rugged secondary phone to accompany you on your adrenaline-filled adventures.

The phone has a 2MP shooter and an LED‌ light. It comes in two colour variants: Matte Black and Desert Camo, and will retail for 109 Euros (~INR 8,600).

The Nokia 110 is the most basic feature phone of all and has a candy bar form factor. The phone has a 1.77-inch QVGA display, a qVGA camera, LED torchlight, and FM radio. The phone has 4MB of RAM and storage (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card).

It packs an 800mAh battery that offers a talk time of 14 hours and a standby time of 18.5 days.‌‌ The 110 comes pre-loaded with the famous Snake game too. The phone retails for USD 20 (~INR 1,400).

Nokia 7.2 & Nokia 6,2

Nokia unveiled the Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 at the event too.‌ The Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 are‌ Android One phones that feature an aluminium-and-glass construction and a 6.3-inch FullHD display up front. While both employ triple-camera setups, the 7.2 uses ZEISS‌ optics with a primary 48MP sensor whereas the 6.2 has a primary Nokia camera with a 16MP sensor.

The Nokia 7.2 is powered by a Snapdragon 660‌ SoC and retails for 299 Euro (~INR 23,620). The Nokia 6.2, on the other hand, sports a Snapdragon 636 SoC and retails for 199 Euros‌ (~INR 15,720).
